Momma always told me to be careful around strangers. I stayed by her side whenever I left the house, making sure I didn't go near anyone that I didn't know. Momma got so sick and tired of me being so close to her, that she began to drink. Momma drank all day and night, and before I knew it, Momma had become a stranger to me. I stayed far away from Momma, even when she wanted to be my Momma again. The only thing I have left from Momma is her advice.

I was born to a family of wealthy landowners. In this godless place, we were the elite. For most of my life, all my needs were met many times over. It was a life of no worries. Yet, still, I worried. I, the eldest daughter, will soon reach an age where social convention requires me to be wed. Father and Mother will give me many options, I know. They would not consider selling me. No, we have money to last many generations. I was promised that I could choose a man whom I loved. The thought of a marriage makes my heart beat fast-- not out of fantasy, but out of fear.
